BERICAP UK Ltd – part of the BERICAP Group based in Hull, UK – was recently honored by Make UK, The Manufacturers’ Organisation, with the Make UK national Health & Safety Award. The implementation of a positive health and safety culture by providing all employees with the knowledge that no task should be carried out if they perceive a risk to their personal health, safety or that of their colleagues throughout their company was recognized.

The UK based factory of BERICAP, who make plastic closures for food, drink and other industrial markets, was honored with the Regional North East and the Yorkshire & Humber Health & Safety Award in November 2020 and beat rivals from across Great Britain to one of the most prestigious awards in the British industrial sector in the recently held national competition.

A key component of the Health & Safety Culture programme, which convinced the jury, was a Hazard Identification System that uses the tag line See It, Sort It, Report It. Giving all employees a simple method of highlighting any Health and Safety issues that could impact on their daily activities.

“We are extremely proud to have been awarded the Make UK national award for Health & Safety. Accolades of this nature are a great way of highlighting to our team the importance BERICAP UK places on Health & Safety and to acknowledge the hard work put into implementing our Health & Safety Systems by all of our employees, we maintain that everyone who works at BERICAP should expect to go home at the end of each day as healthy as they were when they arrived,” Chris Hood, Operational Director, and Paul Hooley, EHS Manager, for BERICAP UK Ltd said.

And June Smith, Region Director for Make UK in the North of England, added: “These awards are a testament to the dynamic companies and individuals working within engineering and manufacturing in the Yorkshire & Humber Region. The sector has been at the heart of delivering during the crisis and as we re-build our economy there will be a bright future for companies and individuals that make the most of their talent.”
